New Board of Directors and Faculty Members as of July 2017
Jane Pizem moved to Grand Junction with her husband Rob in 2010. Jane and Rob quickly fell in love with the desert trails, perfect weather, and seemingly endless rock climbing of Western Colorado. Their sons, Rowan and Orson, share their love for the outdoors and River Canyon was a perfect fit for their adventurous family. Jane brings her experience in public and private accounting and finance to the board. She holds a Master of Professional Accounting and is the Controller for Asset Engineering Limited, a commercial general contractor in Grand Junction.
Cinnamon Levi-Flinn moved to Grand Junction with her husband in 2008, after obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Fishery Biology at CSU. Her love for the outdoors lead her to the Western Slope and her passion for Waldorf education started when a friend introduced her to the Waldorf school in Carbondale. She was struck by the magical way in which Waldorf brings the child’s imagination to life and the qualities that support the whole child. Cinnamon’s two sons have attended RCS and her youngest will continue attending through the 2017-2018 school year. Cinnamon enjoys camping, fishing, yoga, and anything that involves outside activities with her two boys and husband.
Heather McPherson moved to Grand Junction in the summer of 2013, inspired by the quiet desert atmosphere, endless trails and rock formations. As an environmental geologist, Western Colorado is the perfect playground that combines her career and hobbies. She and her fiancé Dan spend many weekends running, mountain biking, camping, and climbing on the Western Slope and in Utah. Though Heather does not have children attending River Canyon, her passion for the outdoors, environmental sustainability, and background in Suzuki violin make the Waldorf community a pleasure to support and she is excited to contribute as a member of the board.
Waldorf Advisor/Business Manager
Gisela has been with River Canyon School since its inception in 2008, and both of her sons have attended the school. Gisela’s history with the school, professional background, and love for Waldorf education make her a natural fit as the school’s Advisor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with emphasis in bilingual education and a Master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition and ESL. Gisela is a native of Chile. She enjoys traveling and camping with her family, trail running, yoga, and spending time in her land in beautiful Patagonia.
Miss Ashley is a Western Colorado native who returned here to raise a family after living in Chicago, Florida and Georgia. Her background is in theatre, classical ballet and the arts, but she always found herself drawn to work with children. While pursuing a degree in theatre performance, Ashley stumbled upon an article on Waldorf education and was so inspired by the philosophy that she decided to wholeheartedly pursue the field of education. Ashley studied Elementary Education at Western Governors University and received her LifeWays certification (an Early Childhood Waldorf-inspired training) in 2014.
